Organic Greek Oak Honey 250 g – dark, mineral-rich honey
Organic Greek oak honey is a rare, dark honeydew from the oak forests of Arcadia, on the Peloponnese. The flavour of this honey is full-bodied, slightly malty and less sweet than ordinary floral honey, with notes of caramel, cocoa and nuts - perfect for those looking for a rich și characterful honey.
What makes this oak honey so special?
In Arcadia's mountainous forests, bees do not collect nectar from flowers, but honeydew from ancient oak trees. This gives organic Greek oak honey:
a very dark colour, almost like molasses
A deep, earthy flavour with caramel and malt notes
a high mineral and antioxidant content
Because it is honeydew honey, this oak honey contains fewer fast sugars than many floral honeys and is often perceived as „less sweet” but richer in flavour.
The family story behind the honey
This honey comes from a Greek beekeeping family that has been working in Arcadia for several generations. Grandfather started in the ’50s with a few hives on the edge of the forest. Today, his children and grandchildren are continuing the tradition:
Small-scale organic beekeeping
cabinets that go into oak forests with the seasons
no use of pesticides or antibiotics in beekeeping
After harvesting, the honey is slowly spun, coarsely filtered, and bottled at a low temperature. This ensures that aromas, enzymes, and natural nutrients are preserved as much as possible.
The family's bee museum
The family also has a small bee museum at the apiary, where the history of the craft și old beekeeping materials are kept. Here they welcome school classes all year round: children see the hives up close, learn why bees are so important for nature și get to experience for themselves how honey is harvested. This way, every jar of honey becomes not only a purely natural product, but also a way to make the next generation aware of biodiversity și respect for the bee.

Questions & answers about organic Greek oak honey
Is oak honey sweeter than regular flower honey?
No, oak honey is actually perceived as less sweet. The flavour is deeper and fuller, with notes of caramel and malt.
Eikenhoning is donker van kleur vanwege de oorsprong van de nectar, die afkomstig is van de honingdauw die door bladluizen op eikenbomen wordt geproduceerd.
The bees collect honeydew from oak trees. This contains more minerals and other substances than flower nectar, which makes the honey very dark.
What is the best way to use oak honey for?
For cheese boards, nuts, dark chocolate, yoghurt, oatmeal and in savoury marinades.
Does oak honey crystallise quickly?
No, compared to many floral honeys, oak honey crystallises slowly. If it does solidify, warm the jar in a bain-marie to a maximum of 40°C.
Is this honey suitable for children?
Not for babies younger than 12 months. For older children, a small amount can be a natural sweetener, for example in yoghurt or tea.
What's the difference with thyme honey?
Oak honey is dark, mineral-rich and less sweet, with malty and caramel tones. Thyme honey is lighter, floral and spicy, with distinct thyme aromas.
